The Real Cost of the Lies We Tell Ourselves

(And why your organisation is bleeding talent, brilliance, and energy without even knowing it)

This slide is from a talk I’m giving tomorrow.

These stories I used to tell were my truth.  They shaped my identity, my choices, my career, my outcomes.

They kept me safe – or so I thought.

But they also kept me small.

For six decades, I thought this was “reality”.

But the truth is – I was living in a story.

A story I didn’t know I had the power to change.

I didn’t realise those “I am” statements were choices.

I didn’t know how to write a different script.

If someone had helped me see the grip those stories had on me – and the cost – I might have shifted sooner.

Instead, I lived half a life.  Settling for less than.  Mediocre.  Always feeling like I was meant for more, never knowing how, & all but starting to quit on myself.

Until I changed the story.

Unleashing the best of me hasn’t been easy.

It’s taken deep inner work.  Emotional regulation.  Radical honesty.  A willingness to not shy away from the discomfort and keep on going, keep on showing up.

But it changed everything !!!!

It has been the most liberating, exciting adventure of my life – the adventure of finding ME !!

And in me I have found such strength, such power, and the capacity to rewrite the rules – for what a woman can be, for what leadership can look like, for what’s possible when you stop living small.

And now – it’s the work I do.

I help people see the invisible stories they’re living inside – and show them how to flip the script.

Because this isn’t just about me.

It’s about the untapped potential sitting in your organisation right now.

People hiding behind fear.  Behind protection.

People who don’t know they’re trapped in a false “truth”.

And it’s costing them, you, & our communities far more than you think.

It’s costing creativity.

It’s costing confidence.

It’s costing innovation, energy, engagement, and trust.

We talk so much about the mining industry in this country –

but what about mining the potential already in the room ?

Surely that is our greatest untapped resource - by FAR !!!

Your people are carrying stories just like I was.

Stories they didn’t choose, but live by all the same.

Stories that are capping their contribution – and suppressing their brilliance.
