You know those speakers who make it seem so effortless ?
They seem to be able to just stand up and speak, easily, so naturally.
Speaking to an audience seems to come so naturally to them, like they’re born with this gift, unattainable by the rest of us mere mortals.
When they speak, it’s just like they’re having a conversation, like they’ve put no effort in at all & their words just flows off the tongue.
It’s a myth.
Because these speakers have been working, preparing, crafting, honing their styles, presentations, & delivery for years, & make it seem like they’ve just rocked up & done no preparation at all.
But they all started somewhere.
And the truth is, good speakers are made, not born.
Which means that ALL of us are capable of doing what most people fear – speaking in public.
This image is of an early outing of me, as I was just starting to learn my craft.
Every outing for me is an opportunity, to see how my material lands with an audience. Some will love it – some will hate it – most will lie somewhere in between, & that’s perfect. We can’t be all things to all people.
And so I will spend the rest of my life improving, but never perfecting.
I'm creating my newest speech “How I Made a Woman” right now & will test it out in front of an audience next weekend. Which is when I start to turn a good speech, into a great speech !
So when someone says “she’s so lucky, she was born with the gift of speaking”, know that it’s a muscle that can be built, including by YOU !!
The world NEEDS to hear what YOU have to say too. YOUR message is important, & like everything, getting it out there starts with a single step, preferably today.
