Yesterday, August 25th was the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Paris during World War II, & was the day the German garrison surrendered.
I had the great good fortune to be in Paris, & was proud to join with thousands of other Parisians for the main ceremony, held in the early evening near Porte d’Orléans, to the south of the city.
There were some vocal protestors, especially against Macron, who seems to be not all that well liked in certain quarters, but amidst high security, all went smoothly, honouring those who fought, & especially those who died, including those in the Resistance, & the last transports out of Paris to the German concentration camps.
There were stirring speeches, marching soldiers, pipes & drums, & a flyover that followed immediately following the singing of La Marseillaise.
Church bells rung, just as they had across the city 80 years ago.
As I followed the Parade wearing my very French blue dress, waving my red white & blue tricolore, French TV approached me for an interview !! Foolishly I thought my French might not be good enough, & a moment passed that I instantly regretted ! Oh no ! My French is WAY good enough ! I could have been on French telly ! Bobbi from downunder! Agh!
But as I stood amidst amongst Parisiens for this historical commemoration, I couldn’t help but draw parallels between this monumental event in history and some of the challenges we face today.
The four years of occupation Paris endured during WWII were a time of immense struggle, hardship, and resistance. Yet, despite the suffering and uncertainty, the city’s spirit remained unbroken. The liberation of Paris was not just a military victory but a testament to the resilience and determination of its people. This victory came at a steep price, but it ultimately signalled the triumph of hope and courage over adversity.
We are all facing battles and challenges in various aspects of our lives, whether it’s adapting to rapid technological changes, overcoming market disruptions, navigating economic uncertainties, or dealing with personal struggles.
The story of Paris shows us the power of resilience, strategic resistance, and a steadfast commitment to values. Just as Parisians stood firm against oppression, we too must uphold our vision and values despite challenges.
As we confront our own struggles, let’s draw inspiration from Paris's historic triumph in August 1944. Embrace resilience, stay resolute, and tackle obstacles with the same courage and determination that marked Paris's path to freedom.
Can you think of any lessons from history you can apply to your life or business today?
Love Bobbi ❤️
